Keeping Your Cool In The Summer Heat

The only way I know how to keep my cool in the summer heat is to stay indoors. My hubby convinced me to move to the North West Coast thirty-five years ago and claimed: "It never gets hot." I learned quickly that he is a liar. We moved from the Mid West where summers are hot and humid. I hated it and still do.  And now I live in it. Hubby hates it as much as I do so I can't get mad at him! Except he gets to work in AC all day.

As hot as it is, we are thankful there are no raging forest fires this year and I pray it stays that way. But the lawns are parched and the timber looks scary - dusty and dry.

However.......I am thrilled to have a hot and beautiful summer for the grands. I was able to spend a week with them after not seeing them for seven months.

She lays a few outfits on the floor each morning to decide what she is going to wear and what top to wear with each skirt. They have to match and that includes the shoes.

I asked Brie if she would like to do my make-up. Brie is four. Brie insists on wearing dresses, skirts, and 'high' heels every day. Asking her if she wanted to put my make-up on for me was a no-brainer.

She applied concealer, foundation, blush, eyebrow pencil, and eye shadow. I decided not to have her put on the mascara as I might lose my vision for a while. But she watched intently and wants to try it next time.

She was meticulous and so gentle with each application I had to hold her hand in place to show her it was okay to apply 'pressure.' WHAT FUN. A five-minute job took about an hour and I loved every minute of it.

Brie and I played house a lot and every time we put her baby to bed, Star decided she would have a nap as well.

About a week after we returned home, I noticed my husband shaking his head for no apparent reason. I asked him "What's wrong?"

"I just can't believe what a good kid William is. I've never seen an eight-year-old like him."

Considering a lot of ill-behaved kids come into our store I had to agree with him that William is a remarkable young man. Polite, hard-working, kind, thoughtful, caring, and generous. What more could we ask watching our grandson grow into a young man?

I love the pictures and a couple of them are award-winning in my book.

Appreciating the little things (and little people) in life is appreciating the finer things in life.

  1. It never ceases to amaze me how fast they're growing up. It's great that you got to spend some time with them (and take such gorgeous pics). Would have loved to have seen what your makeup looked like when she was done, though!

  5. I didn't think your grandkids, or Star, could get any cuter; I was wrong! What fun doing makeup with Brie. The pic of Star and the doll was precious. Thanks for the smile!

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comments. When I visited the kids last week, I had Brie do my make-up again. She was more precise this time. :)
