WHAT A SURPRISE! I have been playing shepherdess to my daughter's sheep, six dogs and a cat while they are in Hawaii. My daughter and family -- not the sheep! I love being here - in the wooded country, without the pressures of home and work. I never expected to be compensated for helping her in this way. It came as a complete shock when she gifted me a full day at the spa. Not just any spa, but the Grotto Spa at Tigh-Na-Mara - 20,000 square feet of spa bliss.
My day started with a dip in the mineral pool. I could have gone home at this point - I was totally relaxed. After a 90 minute relaxation massage, walking was barely an option. My masseuse was such a delight and I had her laughing so much, I believe she became as relaxed as she was making me feel.
Queen for a Day
Even though the spa was very busy, each attendant made you feel like you were queen for the day. For a few hours, I didn't think about sheep or dogs or all the obligations and stress of the real world. For a few hours, I escaped into oblivion.
I was served an incredible lunch platter even though I didn't have a clue what I was eating. I recognized the cheese and crackers, but that was about it. It didn't matter, it was all delicious. Had I been transported into another world? If I had, I wanted to stay here. Each room had a fireplace and the ambiance was beautiful.
Each Treatment was a treat
Next was the facial. It was refreshing, invigorating and relaxing. The esthetician surprised herself by sharing her life with me and we made a great connection, becoming fast friends. I was thrilled I was there to encourage her. From there, we went to another room for my pedicure. With tears in her eyes, she hugged me and we exchanged our emails.
Holding me she said, "People come into your life for a season. You came into mine when I needed you to be here." You never know who you will meet, why you met them when you did or on what journey a new relationship will take you.
We never know what the day will bring...
When I left this morning, I knew I would lose a full day of work and wondered how I would ever catch up. When I came home, I didn't even care. There are more important things in life then work and deadlines. Being in the right place at the right time, giving of your experience and wisdom to someone that needs it, is priceless. I will not soon forget these two women who served me today and I believe the feeling is mutual.
The more we give, the more we receive
It is of utmost importance to be ready to listen, to console and to express love to anyone who needs it. Going to the spa is a very personal 'me-time' and I certainly looked forward to it being just that. What I walked away with was so much more -- because the more we give of ourselves, the more we receive in return.
And, oh....I almost forgot. I don't smell like sheep! Later this week I will tell you what is happening on the 'farm' but for now, I wanted to share this experience.
Do you think this pup could use a day at the spa?
Have you had any similar experiences? I'd love to hear about them.
