When Louie was about 6 months old, my daughter went away for two weeks. Boo Boo, as she affectionately called him, was attached to her like glue. He stayed in her room the first two days and didn't want to socialize. You could tell he was very lonely.
One evening my
husband and I were in
the living room and heard an awful commotion upstairs in my
daughter's bedroom. Then the clunk-clunking of something being
dragged down the stairs. This little six-month-old pup was bringing his carrier (Louis Vuitton carrier, of course) down the
stairs. It was about three times his size. When he got to the living room, he proceeded to run back up
and one by one brought his dish, ball, leash, blanket, teddy and sweater.
We sat in awe watching this story unfold and were thoroughly
entertained. When he completed his packing, he jumped inside and began a feat that caused us to stare -- not believing what we were seeing. With great difficulty he began to pull the zipper closed. It took him quite awhile but he did not stop until the zipper was closed and then he went to sleep.
He slept in that bag for the night. I am sure he was extremely disappointed when he woke up to discover he was still in the living room and his mommy was not there.
Every day of those two weeks, I made notes of Louie's escapades, each one more incredible than the former.

That Christmas, I published “Louis
Vuitton's Personal Journal of His Vacation with Grandma.” When my
daughter read it, she laughed and cried and said it was the best
present ever.
She then began a campaign to convince me to write my memoir, Battered Hope, and continued to hound (no pun intended) me until it was completed ten years later. It was that little Dachshund that inspired me to write. I love him to bits.
We almost lost Louie a couple years ago. He became deathly ill and wouldn't eat. He lost all his fur and the vet could not figure out what was wrong; the prognosis was not good. There was a good possibility Louie might not make it.
Just about the time we were ready to give up, they discovered what was wrong. The city had sprayed a chemical pesticide on the entire area and many dogs, especially those low to the ground, were gravely ill and dying. Fortunately, Louie was one of the lucky ones who was treated in time. He is a fighter, just like his dad, Texas, E is for Emergency.
I am participating in this year's A to Z Challenge 2014 and am sharing 26 dogs stories - one for each letter of the alphabet.
A is for All the Dogs B is for Babe C is for Charlie

Louie was too young to die!
